On Saturday, David and Lorena took me out for churros and chocolate, my wish granted. They were yummy and served to be breakfast and lunch for me.
On Sunday, June's and John's wish to go to the beach was also granted. Nierves, June and I started off at 7.30am in Jose Luis' Chelsea tractor and John in Yolanda's sports car to San Sebastian (Spanish) or Donostia(Basque). Nierves was well prepared with food and drink for the journey. The scenery through the mountains was picturesque, to be enjoyed only by the naked eye, not through the camera lens. Seeing the beach, John excitedly rolled up his trousers to dip his feet in the water. I found the water too fria

Away from the beach, we cheered on the runners in a marathon race shouting venga and vamos, copying Nierves. June and John planned to 'get lost' so they could remain in what they considered a dreamland in San Sebastian, but sadly they had to move on with us.
We then met up with Miguel in Fuenterrabia, called Hondarribia in Basque Escuara language, and loaded into his camper van with seat belts only in the front
First stop was lunch in a brilliant choice of restaurant by Miguel-

All the food I tried, especially the fish and the dessert called pastel Vasco, was delicioso. Also, I had cider finally in Spain, which was made even more special by the method it was poured into the glass by Jose Luis and Miguel-
Then we journeyed up a hill to Guadalupe Church for the view of the bridge connecting France with Spain, see picture, and then more of the old town. And, oh yes, we experienced a scary 3 point turn part way down the hill on a narrow road with a steep drop on one side when we had to return to the top to look for John's missing bag.
The day passed wonderfully with great company, beautiful scenery, delicious food, exposure to Spanish architecture, dance (see picture) and language. By the end of the day, Nierves was confidently able to say ' more slowly' and 'more or less'. Of course I must not forget the soothing Spanish songs sung by both Yolanda and Jose Luis.
Thank you Spanish Si Senior volunteers for making this trip not only possible, but enjoyable and memorable.
